Shared Harvest Program
The Shared Harvest Program helps neighborhood farms donate fresh, locally grown food to food banks and community pantries, without placing the full financial burden on the farmer.
Through this initiative, NFUSA covers 50% of the wholesale value of produce that farms donate at the end of each week. This ensures farmers are partially compensated for their labor while increasing the flow of nutrient-dense food to people who need it most.
How the Program Works
Farms Opt In
Participating farms commit to:
- Donating fresh produce weekly or biweekly
- Partnering with a local food bank, pantry, or mutual-aid group
- Documenting the donation with basic photos + data
NFUSA Matches 50%
NFUSA reimburses:
- 50% of the wholesale value of donated produce
- Paid monthly
- Capped per farm ($200 per week and up to $2,000 per season)
Food Reaches Local Partners
Eligible recipients include:
- Food banks
- Mutual-aid fridges
- Community pantries
- Senior or youth nutrition programs
